Welcome FALL!

I’m so glad God created seasons for us to enjoy. The coming of each season sparks our curiosity for the days ahead. I look forward to Fall especially for the change in weather and colors of nature. The King family loved Vermont this time of year. But not only do I love fall for the changes in nature, but the opportunities that lie ahead.
Summer is over its time to get children back to school. Vacations are nice but tend to be a break from reality of life. Fall is about the time of harvest, a time of growth. As a believer, I am looking forward to growth in my life. I look forward to seeing God change me. As a pastor, I am looking forward to what God brings our way: new people, new ministries, new spiritual fruit, inevitable changes.

As for the King’s, we will be really involved in our community. September 11, we will remember the fallen, October 8th we will be a part of a fundraiser for Autism Speaks, throughout the fall we will be involved in Kid’s 4 Truth, Boy Scouts, and Fall sports for youth. Lastly, I have received my Real Estate License for the state of NC. This has always been a goal for me from the time i was living in Vermont. I plan to use this to help the church financially in two ways: one offset salary expenses, and finding property for our future church. This will potentially save the church 1000′s of dollars. As well, its a great benefit in that i will get to know many new home buyers to the community. Be in prayer concerning this venture, as i need to strike the right balance.
Lastly, the church is looking to move to a new facility for 2012. We feel our time at the cannon school is nearing an end. We are praying at this time for Morrison Motors to allow us to use a building they are currently using for a parking lot. So as you can see, there are many things happening in the King household and crossview baptist church. I hope you are taking in the excitement of this time of year and looking forward to the new opportunities before you.

Accepting an invitation

Of late, I have been studying the work of God. It is interesting to see how God is the one that initiates his plan to work in us and through us. His work has begun before we are engaged into the work. This is a comforting thought to know that God is ahead of me; and that I am not alone in the work. A lot of the time, we find ourselves working a program, or a plan to see God work. We should rather let God intervene with our plans in order to accomplish His work. A focus for this year for Crossview will be the empowering of the Holy Spirit. In Zechariah, we find that it is “not by might, nor by power, but my Spirit saith the Lord of Hosts”. We need to be reliant upon the Spirit of God for His work to be done.

Jesus further states in John 5:17, 19-20 of the need to submit to the will of the Father. That we can do nothing in and of ourselves. If this is true for the Son of God, it is necessary for the way of man. The work of God is a gift to us through the person of God.

“God didn’t give a person some thing. God Himself was the Gift.” (Blackaby, Experiencing God)

Jesus again states “The Father who dwells in me does the works” (Jn. 14:10) He later states in Jn. 15:3 that “without me you can do nothing”. Further we learn that the Spirit too is involved in the work of God in the work of man. He came upon men like Moses, Ezekiel, Peter, the judges, David, and prophets of old to accomplish a given task. These men were often considered weak, and incabable to accomplish the tasks before them by their peers and by themselves. But when God invites you to be a part of the work, He enables you to fulfill it. Instead of questioning our abilities, talents, or even spiritual gifts, we must launch out in faith to that invitation.

I believe there are many folks being drawn by the Spirit of God at this very moment. We must be sensitive to those around us looking for God. We must cancel our plans when we come face to face with individuals seeking God. How many times do we miss out on conversations due to our schedule. I will be praying this coming year to be more in tune with God at work around me and before me; that i will look for those invitations and readily be involved in His work.

Sacrifice Sunday

Tomorrow is a special day in the life of Crossview Baptist Church. We have prayed and now are planning to give toward the startup offering toward property/building/ and or remodeling of an existing facility for worship. In the coming year, we will challenge each member afresh to give regularly to this cause. We are currently meeting at the Cannon School, a private school located at 5801 Poplar Tent Rd. The school is a great place for us to meet, yet it does not allow us to meet beyond Sunday mornings for worship. Our goal is to raise 25,000 over the next year. We then will apply for various grants that help church plants in the acquisition of property or purchase of a facility to use for worship. We have been researching existing facilities in the Concord/Harrisburg area. To remodel an existing facility would drastically reduce the cost and would allow us to move in immediately. This week at Crossview

This past week we had a wonderful time of fellowship. The fellowship included teaching on Biblical Fellowship from Acts 2. This was a followup sermon to the “Foundation of our Fellowship.” The message focus was upon the “Function of Fellowship”. Crossview doesn’t want to do church but be the church. Part of this is understanding our roles within the body of the local new testament church. If a member is not functioning she or he is in turn hurting or hindering the body of Christ in its growth and extension of itself. A fellowship becomes dynamic as it bonds itself to Christ, His Word, and one another. This is fleshed out in life through the care for things of God and our service toward others through acts of love. Love is the motivator and glue to a church. A church cannot become dynamic unless it trusts each member and is willing to build upon the common bond in Christ. This takes risks on our part as believers.

This coming week, Missionaries Theo and Sarah van Reijn will be sharing their burden for planting churches in the Netherlands. Should be an exciting weekend.

I’m reminded of the necessity of giving the gospel and caring for little children. Thus the change of the photo for the blog page. This month our theme has been getting back to the basics. On September 12, Crossview Baptist Church will be inviting folks from our community to our “Back to Church Sunday”. Their is a need for us adults to get back to the preciousness of child like faith. Children seem to see things clearer than us adults. What are some things we can learn from a child?

Youth News Camp

Summer is soon approaching. School will be out and camp season is upon us.

Crossview youth on May 15, and 29th will be hosting its first carwash-athon at the Harrisburg Zaxby’s off of Hwy 49. The goal is for each camper to have pledges from neighbors for each car they wash that would total $3.00. We plan to wash 100 cars over these two Saturdays. If each camper raises $3.00 in pledges and we wash 100 cars they will raise $300 toward camp. Crossview has register 10 campers to attend camp at the Wilds June 14-19. Pray for God’s blessing the week of camp.

April 11th we will be celebrating Crossview’s first birthday. No need to bring presents just bring yourself and maybe a friend or two! I am challenging each member to invite 8 friends to church for Sunday. We will have fabulous music, an inspirational message by Pastor Mike Barr and a meal fit for a king. (pun intended) Each person will receive a gift that attends on our special day. We have invited several elected guests from the community.

Glorious Sounds to my ears

This past week, Crossview was treated to the Upstate Brass, a traveling ensemble of musicians ministering to smaller churches in North and South Carolina. Their music glorified God, was a delight to the ear, and was a blessing to the soul. Another plus of the day, was the lessons from history concerning the roots of the music and lyrics. We hope to have them back some time soon. Maybe this will spur Crossview to form her own orchestra.
